IMMIGRATION EVALUATIONS

I offer immigration mental health evaluations for extreme hardship (601/601A waivers/pardons), removal hearings, victims of violence (VAWA, U-VISA, T-VISA), and political asylum cases.

The following is a summary of the types of evaluations I offer.

Immigration Mental Health Evaluations

Extreme Hardship Immigration Evaluations: Hardship Waivers, also known as I-601A and I-601 waivers, are for an undocumented family member or spouse of a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident. This type of extreme hardship evaluation assesses the psychological, financial, social, emotional, cultural, and physical impact the U.S. citizen or U.S. resident would experience should their family member or spouse be unable to remain in the U.S.

Mental Health Evaluations for Victims of Violence: There are several categories of Visas for victims of violent crimes that include sexual abuse, domestic violence, exploitation, kidnapping, forced prostitution, sexual assault, and trafficking. T-Visas are for victims of trafficking and exploitation. U-Visas are for victims of violent crimes and VAWA evaluations are for victims of domestic violence whose spouse/partner is a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident. This type of evaluation assesses the psychological, emotional, and social consequences that the crime, abuse or exploitation has had on the survivor.

Evaluation for Asylum Seekers: This category is for individuals exposed to violence, harassment, and other human rights violations in their country of origin due to their political ideology, gender, religious beliefs, or racial and ethnic background. These individuals flee their country of origin in order to escape being further harmed or threats on their life. The assessment and mental health evaluation help to determine the impact of the abuse suffered and to assess the survivor’s prognosis.

Other Information regarding Immigration Evaluations:

I specialize in the assessment, evaluation, and treatment of individuals with a history of trauma. Extra sessions may be recommended depending on the level of trauma that an individual has experienced in order to help reduce symptom related distress.

I offer cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and cognitive processing therapy (CPT) to clients who are diagnosed with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a specific type of cognitive behavioral therapy that has been effective in reducing symptoms of PTSD that have developed after experiencing a variety of traumatic events including assault, child abuse, domestic violence, rape, exploitation, and trafficking.
